Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the safe-in-six model; completes related reports as required.
Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
Lifeguard
Qualifications:
Minimum age of 16 Certifications:
Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration Current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards Lifeguard Work Environment & Physical Demads:

Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
Swim Instructor Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, using YMCA provided lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
Ensure the safety of all participants in and around the pool area.
Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
Maintains records as required (e.
g.
, attendance, progress reports).
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.
Reports damaged equipment.
Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
Swim Instructor
Qualifications:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work well with individuals of all ages, especially children CPR and First Aid certification preferred, but not required Previous experience as a swim instructor or lifeguard is a plus At least 16 years of age Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date Swim Instructor Work Enviroment & Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
